Packaging Strategies

Packaging is an art, science and technology of protecting or enclosing objects for distribution, storage, display, consumption and usage. The term packaging is used to refer to the entire process of developing, testing, designing and manufacturing packaging materials. The development of packaging begins at the earliest stage of a product’s design, as it is conceived. At this stage packaging plays a crucial role in the quality and safety of a product before it ever makes it to its customers.

The first step in packaging a product is to create the basic concept or design of the product. In the case of food, this is done during the design phase of the project. Once the concept of the product is decided upon, it is then moved on to the development of the core component, i.e., the physical form or shape of the consumer product, which is known as the primary packaging. Primary packaging should be free of any foreign matter that may affect its ability to withstand customer use and store effectively.

At this point in time there are two main options for packaging, namely primary (printed) packaging or secondary packaging (cardboard). Secondary packaging could consist of Styrofoam, bubble wrap, newspaper or even cloth. As the demand for packaging is always present, manufacturers and suppliers have come up with a variety of packaging materials. Packaging decisions are made according to the market opportunity. Packaging for consumer goods has become a critical process and all packaging decisions should be made carefully.

When it comes to the actual packaging, consumers are faced with a daunting array of options. The most common packaging is that used for food items like vegetables, fruits, dairy products, meats and fish. While different types of packaging have their own specific advantages and disadvantages, one benefit that is found in all types of packaging is that they help in branding the consumer product. Branding helps in establishing the identity of the company and the product. There are different types of methods of brand identity depending upon the type of product being packed and the intended purpose.

One of the major advantages associated with using packaging in order to promote your business is that it helps in distinguishing between your different products and positioning your business at the top of the list. It is extremely important to be able to differentiate among your products at the different levels of packaging. Proper packaging at different levels will help in increasing sales and improving profit margins. Packaging should be reflective of the company’s brand identity at the different levels of packaging in order to reach the consumer.

When we talk about cereal packaging, it is important to understand that the cereal itself is small. The reason behind this fact is that cereal can be stored for quite long periods of time. Hence, it is very important to maintain the freshness of these products at all times. This type of packaging is known as primary packaging. At the primary packing level, this means the use of paper stock or cardboard material for packaging the cereal. This type of packaging is ideal for storing the cereal for a longer period of time.

A variation of primary packaging is used when it comes to packing sugar. Sugar is a very large item. Hence, it is considered important to pack the sugar properly since the moisture content of the product can also affect the product. This is why it is important to choose this type of packaging when it comes to sugar. There is also the case where tertiary packaging is used to pack the sugar. The different types of tertiary packaging that are used for sugar include the plastic bags or can liners, bulk tapes, sugar roll, cylinder sugar bins and specialized boxes.

Based on the packing strategies that you choose, you can choose between different options of packaging. However, the cost of these packages will be dependent on your marketing strategy. It is advisable to do some research before choosing the most suitable package design for your business. For example, some companies may choose a quality pack when it comes to packaging to ensure that the package will withstand the harsh elements of the environment. On the other hand, some marketing firms may use this method to ensure that their marketing campaign will be sent to their target market. Based on your marketing strategy, you can choose which package design is best suited for your company.
